Beowulf GCIEL Project Intro

GCIEL, or the Grinnell College Interactive Experiences Lab, is an interdisciplinary lab dedicated to exploring how combining the humanities and computer science can create in-depth learning experiences. We work on creating immersive 3D, VR, and MR experiences to aide in the learning experience, combining the expertise of Computer Science, Studio Art, and a variety of Humanities majors to shape our projects. The Beowulf Mead Hall Project is combining the practices of anthropology, literary analysis and art history to guide the creation of a Virtual Reality experience where the user will be able to walk through Heorot and see the surrounding village. For more information about the goals and learning objectives of the project, see the “About the Project” page of this website.

This blog will serve as a place for team members, student and faculty alike, to share important research and technological updates. Whether it’s a coding break-through, a groundbreaking article, updates to story boarding the experience, or just weekly meeting minutes, we hope to use this blog as a space to demonstrate the academic research backing this project.
